Why is my phone not giving me 5G?

In most cases, your phone might fall to 3G or 2G at some point when the signal strength needed for the 4G service is not available in your area . That is, there is no reliable network coverage where you are at the moment.

Switch between 3G/4G/5G – Samsung Android

Moving from 4G to 3G while on hook means you’ve been detached from the 4G cell mainly due to to signal strength and/or signal quality . When you make a call, your phone detached from 4G to 3G because 4G, unless voice over LTE is activated in the network, can’t facilitate phone calls directly.

If you don’t see 5G in the status bar Make sure that you’re in an area with 5G coverage . Contact your carrier if you’re not sure. Go to Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Options. If you see this screen, your device has 5G activated.
