Solana was created in 2017 by Anatoly Yakovenko alongside current Solana board member and Chief Operations Officer Raj Gokal. Yakovenko, now Solana Lab’s CEO, came from a background in system design and wanted to apply his knowledge toward a new blockchain paradigm that enabled faster processing speeds.

Anatoly Yakovenko is a Russian computer engineer and co-founder of the Solana project . He authored the Solana white paper. Growing up in the Soviet Union, he was obsessed with computers from the age of five.

Yakovenko’s parents were born in Ukraine . He’s 100% Americano; a graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
