Which type of heart block is life threatening?

Phase 4 block is a mechanism of paroxysmal atrioventricular block in patients with diseased His-Purkinje systems . Slowdown of sinus rhythm, premature contractions, and termination of tachycardia can be triggers of phase 4 block. A permanent pacemaker is necessary in patients with phase 4 block.

First-degree heart block is the mildest form and usually doesn’t cause symptoms. Electrical signals are slowed, but they all reach the ventricles. Second-degree heart block has a slower – and sometimes irregular – heart rhythm. Not all signals reach the ventricles and some heart beats are dropped.
