Which 3GPP release is 6G?

3GPP Release 17 3GPP approved the Release 17 package in December 2019 at the same meeting as the freeze for Release 16’s physical layer work. So far, COVID-19 has most affected Release 17, as the majority of the work for this release has happened virtually.

Release 16 will be “5G phase 2” and will be completed in June 2020 (TSGs#88) – See adjustment noted above. Prepare and finalize initial description template information that is to be submitted to ITU-R WP 5D#29.
