Which 3GPP release corresponds to 5G phase1?

The delivered stage 2 level specifications define the 3GPP 5G system from an overall, architectural perspective.

In our earlier blog post, we gave an overview of the 3GPP 5G security standard in Release 15 , called 5G Phase 1. While Release 15, completed back in 2018, laid the foundations for 5G architecture and security, Release 16 was dedicated to additional use cases and therefore many features were added or enhanced.

Release 16 will be “5G phase 2” and will be completed in June 2020 (TSGs#88) – See adjustment noted above. Prepare and finalize initial description template information that is to be submitted to ITU-R WP 5D#29.
