What is the future of surgery?

Surgery is shifting from seeing, feeling and manipulating organs and tissues through the surgeon’s own eyes and hands, to using an intelligent robotic medium to see and intervene inside the body. Developments in laparoscopic and endoscopic surgery will enable less invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures .

One in four American hospitals has at least one da Vinci robotic system. According to Intuitive, 877,000 robotic-assisted operations were performed with its systems in 2017 , 2,400 operations every single day using this single piece of technology, a year-over-year increase of 16%.

The robotics industry is expected to grow significantly over the coming years . Estimates suggest that the sector could be worth as much as $260 billion by 2030. Much of this growth will come from professional services robots that perform useful tasks for humans, such as cleaning, delivering, and transporting.

Even though robots will not fully replace surgeons in the OR anytime soon , they will definitely keep on assisting them and enhancing their abilities.23 Haz 2021
