Understanding 4G LTE Categories

Cat-M1, also known as LTE Cat-M, is a low-cost LPWAN technology developed by 3GPP as part of the 13th edition of LTE standard . It’s a complementary technology to NB IOT, with faster upload and download speeds of 1Mbps and lower latency of 10 to 15ms.

LTE, sometimes known as 4G LTE, is a type of 4G technology . Short for “Long Term Evolution”, it’s slower than “true” 4G, but significantly faster than 3G, which originally had data rates measured in kilobits per second, rather than megabits per second.

It means better coverage, better speeds, and better reliability . Category 9 and 12 is up to 4.5~6 times faster than the first generation of LTE (Category 3, short for Cat3).

LTE Cat 4 , with a maximum downlink rate of 150Mbps and an uplink rate of 50Mbps, plays better inthe high data rate market by communicating a greater volume of data simultaneously; whereas LTE Cat1 IoT solution presents its advantages with its amazing cost performancein the medium rate market.

The new LTE Cat 0 was introduced in Rel 12 of the 3GPP standards. And it is being advanced in further releases. One major advantage of LTE Category 0 is that the modem complexity is considerably reduced when compared to other LTE Categories.

The LTE Cat 4 classification supports uplink data rates up to 50Mbps and downlink data rates up to 150Mbps which enable services such as high speed video surveillance and broadband internet backup for server farms and high reliability installations.
