Elon Musk has tweeted that there are currently 1,469 active Starlink satellites in orbit with 272 moving to operational orbits as of January 15, 2022 . Starlink has been launching satellites into orbit since early 2018, with launches expected to continue for years.

Satellite internet’s greatest strength is its reach, not its speed, but the speeds from Starlink are still respectable and still a little better than 5G is currently. Though Starlink is slightly faster than 5G (though still comparable) , it seems 5G may hold the greater potential for speed in the long-run.
