What is baseband signal and passband signal?

The main types of baseband used in MSS are voice (Tel), Fax and Tlx signals on Tel channels, then data, video and image signals .

Baseband signal is normally referred to as the original message signal which is intended to be transmitted whereas passband signal refers to modulated or filtered signal which ultimately gets converted back to baseband signal .

Baseband Transmission is a signaling technology that sends digital signals over a single frequency as discrete electrical pulses . The entire bandwidth of a baseband system carries only one data signal and is generally less than the amount of bandwidth available on a broadband transmission system.

The word baseband has slightly different meanings or usage depending on the context, but traditionally, it is a signal at a very narrow frequency range on which data or information is superimposed and then transmitted. It is also called a lowpass signal since it can include near-zero frequencies.
