What cars will be affected by 3G shutdown?

Canceled services: As the 3G cellular service is decommissioned, vehicles equipped with the 3G telematics control unit (TCU) will lose MyFord Mobile and MyLincoln Mobile app functionality/connectivity. Remedy: None. Affected cars include 2015 and newer Buick, Chevrolet, Cadillac, and GMC models .

According to the FCC, mobile carriers have to shut down older networks to free up space, or bandwidth, and make room for faster signals like 5G .

“When we shut down the 3G network, there won’t be data or voice service for devices that don’t have at least have 4G capabilities . This means that while some device features might still work, you won’t be able to access our network unless you upgrade to a newer device,” AT&T said in its explainer of the change.
