What are the technologies used in 2G?

In 2G networks, there are three common technologies used for transmitting information:

The GSM system was designed as a second generation (2G) cellular phone technology. One of the basic aims was to provide a system that would enable greater capacity to be achieved than the previous first generation analogue systems . GSM achieved this by using a digital TDMA (time division multiple access approach).

The most common 2G technology was the time-division multiple access (TDMA)-based GSM , originally from Europe but used in most of the world outside Japan and North America. In North America, Digital AMPS (IS-54 and IS-136) and cdmaOne (IS-95) were the main systems.
