What are channels in wireless communication?

A WiFi channel is the medium through which our wireless networks can send and receive data . For routers made in the U.S., the 2.4 GHz band has 11 channels and the 5 GHz band has 45 channels.

A “band” refers to a small portion of the radio spectrum such as the UHF TV band (470MHz to 860MHz). A “channel” refers to a portion of a band which in the case of the TV Band is around 8MHz wide.16 Tem 2012

Radio frequency (RF) channels are an important part of wireless communication. A channel is the band of RF used for the wireless communication . Each IEEE wireless standard specifies the channels that can be used. The 802.11a standard specifies radio frequency ranges between 5.15 and 5.875GHz.

Each channel page can have a maximum of 27 channels . Table 3.1 shows the channel assignments in the IEEE 802.15. 4 standard. The channel pages 0–2 are currently used for 868/915 MHz and 2.4 GHz bands.
