What is a Spectrum? • A signal is a function of time which can be represented by a series of sinusoidal functions or sinusoidal components . • These sinusoidal components have different frequencies, different amplitudes, and different phases.

A signal can also be considered as a composition of various sinusoidal signals having varied frequency, amplitude and phase. And frequency spectrum of a digital signal is its measure of energy density and presentation in the frequency domain depending on the Fourier Transform .

The phase spectrum specifies the phase of signal components as a function of . component frequency . This phase is measured with respect to a cosine reference.
