Is my phone 3G?

If you have a Samsung Galaxy S4 or older it is a 3G device , but newer models may still need an update to work. If you have other devices not mentioned here, go to your carrier or the manufacturer’s website to look up a list of supported phones.

It was first available in May 2001 as a pre-release (test) of W-CDMA technology. The first commercial launch of 3G was also by NTT DoCoMo in Japan on 1 October 2001, although it was initially somewhat limited in scope; broader availability of the system was delayed by apparent concerns over its reliability.

In the U.S., three providers offer 3G service: AT&T, Verizon Wireless and Sprint . The fourth nationwide carrier, T-Mobile, says it will roll out its 3G network starting later this year.

On Android smartphones, go to settings > Network settings > mobile network . It should give you a dropdown menu of mobile standards such as 2G, 3G or LTE (4G). If you don’t see 4G or LTE, then your smartphone doesn’t support the standard.
