Is C-band 5G faster?

There’s a whole new kind of 5G being launched and talked about in the US in 2022: C Band. It’s much faster than existing “nationwide” 5G, yet has better coverage than hard-to-find mmWave 5G . For AT&T and Verizon, it represents a huge leap forward in the 5G race.

Since the high-profile C-band launch last week, Verizon’s C-band boosted its 5G speeds to a peak of 735 Mbps , according to tests by PCMag, which is “far beyond” what they previously saw with the company’s “nationwide” 5G network.

Based on testing done by PCMag, Verizon’s C-Band delivers north of 500Mbps on average , but Redditors have shared speeds exceeding the 800Mbps mark on the carrier’s 5G Ultra Wideband network.

AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon all bought mmWave holdings, but Verizon was the most aggressive in deploying it. mmWave offers truly dizzying speeds and huge capacity, but at the cost of propagation: it doesn’t go far and can’t pass through walls , people, tree branches, or sometimes even leaves.22 Ara 2021
