Polygon is a secondary scaling solution for the Ethereum blockchain . These types of solutions work on top of an existing blockchain network rather than using their own blockchain. Go to the Polygon/Matic web wallet at https://wallet.matic.network/. Make sure your MetaMask network is set to “Ethereum Mainnet” in the dropdown menu, then connect to the wallet. If the wallet doesn’t take you to the bridge immediately, click on “Move funds to Matic Mainnet”.

MATIC is the native crypto coin for Polygon (it’s a token, technically), which kept its name from when the platform was called Matic Network.
