HF Radio Frequencies

MF/HF Radiotelephone Your VHF radio is intended mainly for short range communications, generally 5-10 miles , and at least 20 miles to a USCG station.

Printer test checks the connection between MF/HF equipment and printer. Go to Menu#2 -> READOUT & SET UP -> press 4 -> press ENT. This displays the “SELF TEST” screen. Select the “printer test” and press ENT.

Frequencies immediately below MF are denoted low frequency (LF), while the first band of higher frequencies is known as high frequency (HF) . MF is mostly used for AM radio broadcasting, navigational radio beacons, maritime ship-to-shore communication, and transoceanic air traffic control.

Digital selective calling or DSC is a standard for transmitting pre-defined digital messages via the medium-frequency (MF), high-frequency (HF) and very-high-frequency (VHF) maritime radio systems . It is a core part of the Global Maritime Distress Safety System (GMDSS).

The MF/HF has Digital Selective Calling (DSC*) as standard with a built in Class A 6CH DSC watch-keeping receiver. You can transmit and receive digital selective calls for quick and efficient establishment of distress, urgency, safety and routine communication with other ships and coast stations .
