I recently stumbled upon two websites for learning coding and programming skills: CodeCombat and Codewars. Both use a free software philosophy (all code examples are open source licensed and/or available GitHub) and help teach different computer programming languages.

Codewars is a good tool for software engineers of all levels to use to advance their language skills, interact with other software engineers, and discuss solutions . Beginner engineers need some experience in the language in order to join the program.

Codewars is an educational community for computer programming . On the platform, software developers train on programming challenges known as kata. These discrete programming exercises train a range of skills in a variety of programming languages, and are completed within an online integrated development environment.

From a beginner’s perspective, Codewars can be challenging and may deter beginners because of the difficulty of the challenges . However, you are always going to have to solve complex problems as a developer and starting early isn’t a bad idea.
