Does Virgin Media own O2?

EE was formed in 2012 by the merger of Orange and T-Mobile , while O2 can trace its roots back to Cellnet and BT Cellnet before it became O2 in 2002. Other providers in the UK piggyback onto one of these networks.

O2’s coverage is excellent , with its 2G, 3G and 4G networks available for 99% of the UK population. Geographically, its 4G platform now reaches 84% of the country. Its 5G network is also expanding. This puts it up there with EE and Three.

Vodafone and O2 are joining forces and it’s very good news for customers.

Virgin Media and O2, two of the biggest names in the telecommunications industry, officially merged in a 50:50 joint venture between their owners Liberty Global and Telefónica .

Today O2 and Vodafone have announced a new deal that enhances their existing partnership, to bring the best network experience to their customers. The two telecommunications companies, which already share mast infrastructure, have agreed a deal to trade bands to create more efficient blocks of 5G spectrum.

Any mega-deal would mark a U-turn by BT, which was forced to sell O2 – previously called Cellnet – in 2002 to help slash its debts .
