In the 4G architecture we are working with, base stations are invisible to the IP layer of terminals . When a terminal sends an IP packet, it sends it to the gateway that all base stations are connected to. Base stations only relay layer 2 packets between terminals and the gateway.

A standard LTE system architecture consists of an Evolved UMTS Terrestrial Radio Access Network, more commonly known as E-UTRAN, and the System Architecture Evolution, also known as SAE . SAE’s main component is the Evolved Packet Core, also known as an EPC. The E-UTRAN is comprised of: User Equipment (UEs)

They comprise an air interface between the user’s mobile device and the base station and two core networks; one for circuit-switched voice and another for packet-switched data . In the subsequent 4G/LTE architecture, voice and data are both based on IP packets.

Description of 3G architecture: User Equipment The 3G system consists of two main parts: the User Equipment (UE) and the UMTS Terrestrial Radio Access Network (UTRAN) . The UE is the mobile phone and the UTRAN is the base station and the network intelligence. Both the UE and the UTRAN are composed of different layers.

4G vs. 3G Internet The “G” in 3G and 4G Internet stands for generation. It’s how we distinguish between older and newer Internet technologies. 3G Internet stands for third generation, while 4G is fourth generation . 1G and 2G Internet technologies were used with the first analog and digital cell phones.

4 G Architecture 4 G network is an integration of all heterogeneous wireless access networks such as Ad-hoc, cellular, hotspot and satellite radio component . Technologies used in 4 G are smart antennas for multiple input and multiple output (MIMO), IPv6, VoIP, OFDM and Software defined radio (SDR) System.
