CB radio lingo

We’re told that Channel 17 was previously used by truckers in the I-5 corridor. Currently, the two that most pertain to drivers include Channel 9 , frequency 27.065, reserved for emergency communications or for traveler assistance and Channel 19, frequency 27.185, widely known as the trucker’s channel.

The bandwidth for CB radios is 8KHz . As an example, lets look at channel 19. The frequency of channel 19 is listed as 27.185MHz, but the signal actually consists of a range of frequencies. The range is 4KHz below and 4KHz above (making an 8KHz bandwidth).

The FCC has approved the use of FM transmission in CB radios. Virtually every CB (Citizen’s Band) radio transmits in AM .
