If your phone has a 5G modem, you will see one of two symbols: 5G or 5G+. 5G means your phone is currently connected to 5G NR on a sub-6 GHz frequency . Bands in this range provide better coverage but slower speeds. The higher the frequency, the faster your download speeds.

Go to Settings > Mobile > Mobile Data Options . If you see this screen, your device has 5G activated. If you can’t see this screen, contact your network provider to confirm that your plan supports 5G.24 Mar 2022

If you see just the “5G” symbol, that means you’re connected to standard 5G, on the sub-6GHz spectrum . This spectrum can be faster than LTE but slower than mmWave and higher-frequency 5G bands.26 Eki 2020

If you’re in an area with 5G service, you’ll see the 5G symbol in the status bar in the upper right-hand corner of the screen . If you don’t see it, 5G isn’t available at the moment. If you see a 5G symbol with a plus sign or “UW” next to it, that means your carrier’s upgraded, higher-frequency 5G service is available.20 May 2021
