According to Airtel CEO Gopal Vittal, the country’s 5G ecosystem is currently underdeveloped and this spectrum is expensive.

The plan is to initially provide 5G in 13 cities, including Delhi, Gurugram, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Chandigarh, Jamnagar, Ahmedabad, Chennai, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Pune, and Gandhi Nagar, where Airtel, as well as Jio and Vi, have already setup 5G trial sites .

Indians may have to wait until next year for 5G services to arrive , according to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. “Required spectrum auctions will be conducted in 2022 to facilitate roll-out of 5G mobile services within 2022-23,” she said in her 2022 budget speech on 1 February, 2022.
