600 MHz is likely to need about 0.8 cells to cover the same area as a 700 MHz cell . So 600 MHz will be excellent for providing coverage over a given area. And, as we said, the 600 MHz signal is likely to penetrate most buildings – great for indoor coverage.

The Lower 700 MHz Band is comprised of spectrum ranging from 698 MHz to 746 MHz . The spectrum is divided into five blocks.

The 5G connection provided by the 600MHz frequency is called Band n71 and the extended range 4G LTE is just called Band 71.

According to the company, a single 5G 600 MHz cell tower will be able to cover “hundreds of square miles .” That’s dramatically greater coverage in comparison with towers deployed in the millimeter wave band, which according to T-Mobile, cover less than a square mile.

T-Mobile first started its rapid 600 MHz LTE deployment in 2017, when it had on average about 31-megahertz nationwide. In July of this year the FCC officially wrapped up the 39-month repacking process, meaning broadcasters were cleared and relocated from the band.
