4G 5G protocol stack

There are five often misunderstood facts to know about 5G: 5G is revolutionary because it replaces the hardware components of the network with software that “virtualizes” the network by using the common language of Internet Protocol (IP) .

Like 3G, 4G networks are IP-based (Internet protocol) , meaning that it uses a standard communications protocol to send and receive data in packets. Unlike 3G, however, 4G uses IP even for voice data. It is an all-IP standard.

The key difference between 4G and 5G is speed — 5G is expected to be much faster than 4G while offering lower latency and better bandwidth . The cellular infrastructure that enables wireless communication gets upgraded roughly every 10 years. Currently, 5G is slowly replacing 4G around the world.
