2G frequency band

3G works at frequencies up to 2.1Gigahertz, 4G up to 2.5Gigahertz and 5G can be up to 95 Gigahertz . That is why there is a lot of hype around 5G. The 5th generation wireless network addresses the evolution beyond mobile internet to massive IoT (Internet of Things).

Since GSM and CDMA platforms co-exist in India, the 900 MHz band is truncated and called ‘primary GSM’ as the higher frequencies of the 800 MHz band (880-890 MHz) are allocated to CDMA operators. Therefore, the 900 MHz band allocated to GSM operators in India is smaller than the EGSM band available overseas.

1G, 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G are the five generations of mobile networks where G stands for Generation, and the number denotes the generation number . 5G is the latest generation, whereas 1G networks are now obsolete. The cellular technologies GSM, UMTS, LTE and NR enable 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G, respectively.
