You never do anything that will damage the patina of the coin! The most “cleaning” you ever do to a coin is a cotton swab with alcohol . If that doesn’t take the surface dirt off – you leave it the heck alone! Gentle rubbing with alcohol on a cotton swab, then gentle rubbing with a dry swab.
